Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

Application for the temporary export of 15 small bivalve fossils

Expanded_Motivation:

Dr Robert Gess has excavated approximately 150 specimens of small bivalve fossils from shale rescued from the Waterloo Farm Lagerstatte outside Grahamstown in 1999 and 2008. Not all specimens are collected as they are not uncommon. He is currently working on a paper regarding these bivalves with Frank Sholtze at Universität Bergakademie (Department Palaeontology/Stratigraphy) in Freiberg. He would like a permit to send a sample of 15 specimens as a short loan to Frank Scholtz in order to finalise the paper. The specimens will be sent by DHL courier and will be returned either by courier or by Frank Shultze when he visits South Africa in October, 2017. The specimens are brownish to grey white impressions in black mudstone from shale rescued in 1999 and 2007 from roadworks at Waterloo Farm outside Grahamstown. The impressions are about 1.5 cm across and the fragments of shale are about 5 cm across.
