Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

Dr Rob Gess has excavated a number of rock samples containing brachiopods for dating purposes from the strata below Mpofu Dam in the Humansdorp district (in accordance with ECPHRA permit (14/04/001). He is leaving for Australia on the 25th of July for a three week conference and study tour. He wishes to take representative samples (approximately 6) with him in order to discuss their dating implications with Dr Norton Hiller, an expert in Devonian brachiopods who was formerly at Rhodes University, but is currently living in Melbourne, Australia..

Expanded_Motivation:

The dating of the Baviaanskllof Formation (Table Mountain Group, Cape Supergroup) has long been the subject of uncertainty. New research by Dr Gess is aimed at pinning down its age according to firm biostratigraphy. Dr Norton Hiller is an expert on Devonian brachiopods and is currently resident in Melbourne Australia. Whilst in Australia for 3 weeks, beginning on the 25th of July Dr Gess wishes to discuss brachiopod samples obtained by him from Mpofu Dam (in accordance with ECPHRA permit (14/04/001), with Dr Hiller in order to confirm their identity and discuss their implications for dating of the unit. .
