Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Application from Kathleen Wheeler on behalf of the Irma Stern Trust for the temporary export of two Irma Stern paintings to be exported to Berlin, Germany for the purposes of exhibition at the Neue Nationalgalerie.

Expanded_Motivation: 

The applicant Kathleen Wheeler lodges this application on behalf of the owner The Irma Stern Trust for a temporary export permit for the following objects, the oil paintings Umgababa and Portrait of Lancelot Hogben by Irma Stern which are due to be exhibited at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, Germany to be included in the exhibition titled The Art of Society 1905-1945. This application is taking place in the Western Cape. The purpose of this application is to obtain a temporary export permit for a period of 2 years for two oil paintings by Irma Stern, Umgababa and Portrait of Lancelot Hogben, which are owned by the Irma Stern Trust. Umgababa, depicted with a railway line running through the centre and a single figure on the left, is signed bottom left by Irma Stern and dated 1922; framed. Portrait of Lancelot Hogben depicts the sitter seated and wearing a white laboratory coat. Signed top left by Irma Stern and dated 1926; framed. Hogben was a zoologist, geneticist and medical statistician who wrote popular books on Maths and Science, including Mathematics for the Millions and Science for the Citizen, The paintings are being exported to the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, Germany to form part of the first exhibition since the building, built by Mies van der Rohe, was refurbished. The Nationalgalerie consider it important "to emphasise the historic connection between South Africa and Germany, by making our public aware that Irma Stern studied in Berlin and had several important exhibitions in the German capital. The paintings have to be in Berlin by mid July 2021. The exhibition starts on 22 August 2021 and ends on 30 September 2023. Furthermore the loan of these paintings are in terms of Irma Stern's wishes as stated in her Will which are the promotion of fine art both within and without South Africa.
