HeritageAuthority(s):

ProposalDescription:

The proposed culvert bridge will consist of 12 precast culverts (Rectangular Portals -SANS 986) with dimensions 1500 x 1500 x1220 as shown in the attached drawing. The culvert bridge will be approximately 7.8m wide x 3.5m length x 2m height. 600 to 900mm stormwater pipes will be used at intersections and low points for the drainage of the road within Umvoti Local Municipality, in KZN Province

Expanded_Motivation:

Through the Integrated Development Plan and budget process Umvoti Local Municipality has prioritised various projects to eradicate service delivery backlogs and improve transport network within its rural communities. The proposed road upgrade will be constructed to ensure safe access to pedestrians and motorists, whilst minimizing soil erosion and siltation of the watercourse due to runoff. Enhance the road’s service levels by improving the accessibility, provide adequate access of public transport to local residents of eNhlalakahle Community and ensure adequate safety to road users by improving the stability of roads banks. The gravel surface road is generally in poor condition and has been re-graded over the years resulting in large windrow deposits on either edge of the road.
