ProposalDescription:

Proposed alteration of section of a linear stone walling located in uMngungundlovu District Municipality of KwaZulu Natal Province.

Expanded_Motivation:

This is an application for alteration of section of the stone walling site with medium-low significance located on the area proposed for Wartburg bulk water system. Umngeni is proposing to construct Wartburg bulk water system to serve a housing development located approximately 4km North West of Wartburg. An archaeological survey of the proposed pipeline was conducted by Fourie (2007). Approximately eight archaeological and historical sites were recorded on the area proposed for the pipeline. The pipeline was consequently re-aligned, such that only one section of this will be affected. Section 35(4) of the National Heritage Resources Act, Act 25 of 1999 indicates that no person may, without a permit issued by the responsible heritage resources authority, destroy damage, excavate, alter, deface or otherwise disturb any archaeological site without a permit issued by the relevant provincial heritage resources authority. It is on that note that this proposal is based.
