Vosloorus Node Heritage Impact Assessment | The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality identified a number of “township complexes” for focused nodal development and regeneration. The first of the projects to be implemented is the Vosloorus nodal development. The project entails development of high density residential, with a component of retail at ground floor to address the local economic development needs and backlog in the area. In accordance with Section 38 of the NHRA, an independent heritage consultant was appointed by GA Environmental to conduct a cultural heritage assessment to determine if the proposed development would have an impact on any sites, features or objects of cultural heritage significance. The cultural landscape qualities of the larger region essentially consist of two components, rural area in which the human occupation is made up of a limited pre-colonial element (Stone Age and Iron Age) as well as a much later colonial (farmer) component. The second component, although much younger, gave rise to an industrial one which is largely made up of industries, which led to large-scale township development. Impact analysis of cultural heritage resources under threat of the proposed development, are based on the present understanding of the development. As no site, features or objects of cultural significance are known to exist in the study area, there would be no impact as a result of the proposed development. | HIA Phase 1 | 29/02/2016 | Johnny Van Schalkwyk | SAHRA Council | JA van Schalkwyk Heritage Consultant | 26/09/2016 - 17:03 |
