Historical and architectural interest
These slave cottages, built in the vernacular style, were erected by captain Charles Lennox Stretch, an Irish immigrant, with the object of retaining his best workers after the emancipation of slaves in 1834. From 1965, Historic Homes of South Africa Limited bought the properties one by one and restored the cottages situated on them with great care. They now serve as an annex to the Drosdy Hotel, which is situated nearby.
