ProposalDescription:

The seven cemeteries were identified during heritage surveys and heritage impact assessments undertaken on the farm Klipplaat 14 IS and Boshmansfontein 12 IS. The seven cemeteries are located within the mining expansion plan known as the second phase of the Tweefontein Optimization Project (TOP).

Expanded_Motivation:

At the time of this permit application, 23 of the 113 graves from the affected cemetery had been identified by the families of the deceased. In the written permissions provided for the relocation of these identified graves, the affected families have indicated the place of reburial for each one of their graves. These requests are summarized in the table below. For 90 of the 113 graves located within these seven cemeteries, despite exhaustive social consultation processes, no families were identified. With no families forthcoming, the 90 graves will be relocated to either Komdraai or Kriel Cemetery which is administered by the Emalahleni Local Municipality. On Wednesday, 18 September 2013 a letter was emailed to the Station Commander of the South African Police Services of Emalahleni, informing the SAPS of the proposed relocation. The letter provided background on the proposed relocation and also requested permission for it to take place. On the same day a letter was emailed to the Emalahleni Local Municipality. A letter was received from Constable M.T. Kokhutsa on 10 October 2013,indicating that the SAPS have no objection to the proposed relocation (Addendum D).
