History: This H-shaped Cape Dutch house with its six gables was probably erected in 1801 by Abraham de Clercq. The property forms an integral part of the historical core of Paarl.

No. 10, De Jongh Laan, stands next to the churchyard, with, on its West side, what is perhaps the best neo-classical gable in Paarl. It bears the date 1801: between the pilasters is the legend 'Myn hoop vervuld naa lang geduld' - my hope fulfilled after long waiting. On the East, is a simpler version of the same gable, with the letters ADCLDV. The house was for long in the hands of the Tielman Roos family: it appears to have no name other than its street number. At No.1, next door but one, there is a gable of 1818, with late end-gables.
