History: Designed by the Dutch architect, Willem de Zwaan the building was opened on 2 December 1897. The ground floor was used by the Nedelandsche Bank en Crediet Vereeniging while the first floor was occupied by the Zuid-Afrikaansche Fabrieken voor Ontplofbare Stoffen. The Bank used the building until 1953 when the transvaal Administration bought it. It was let for some time to the South African Association of Arts.
