Archive Import: The first bridge built north of Pietermaritzburg, situated at the Old Voortrekker and pioneer crossing of the Mooi River.
History: By 1866 there was sufficient demand for a bridge across the Mooi River, as wet weather often delayed transport and at such times there were large gatherings of travallers, wagons, oxen, mules and servants in the area. The bridge played an important role in the development of the area .route used by travellers and transport riders.
