Development Type:

ProposalDescription:

Construction of underground cable and new supply of 200 kVA Transformer and upgrading of existing transformer from 25 kVA to 200 kVA at Taung Skull Fossil Site, Greater Taung Local Municipality in North West Province

Expanded_Motivation:

The North West Department of Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development (NWREAD) applied to Eskom for the upgrading of existing transformer from 25 kVA to 200 kVA the additional 200 kVA transformer supply at Taung Skull Fossil site. The upgrading of 25 kVA to 200VA will consist of changing the existing pole structures and plant new poles at a dept of 1.8m and then mount the new 200 kVA tranformer. The new 200 KVA transformer suppli will entail construction of an underground cable of approximately +/- 250m, running between the palisade fence and tar road for for Taung Skull Fossil site to a point of supply inside Taung Skull. NWREAD is currently improving visitors facilities and site infrastructure. The current capacity is not enough to supply existing and new infrastructure on site. Heritage Impact Assessment, Visual Impact Assessment and Palaentological studies were conducted for these developments. An application for this permit was made on the 13 November 2018 and approved on the 04 December 2019 (Permit ID: 2840 and case ID: 13199). The permit expiry date was the 31 December 2019. Construction of the project was delayed due to financial constraint that the business is facing. The construction of the project has been reprioritized due to ongoing demand of electricity supply. The project is still essential and in need.
