ProposalDescription:

Delta Built Environment Consultants (BEC) has been appointed by BVi Consulting Engineers on behalf of the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited for the sub-service of managing the environmental process and monitoring environmental compliance during the construction for the New Grade-Separated Interchange on National Route R40 and R527 at Hoedspruit. In line with the upgrading strategy for the R40-5/6, the ultimate improvement objective for this route is to alleviate congestion and improve mobility on the R40 at the two main intersections and to allow the traffic to flow through the area. R40, R527 and D5012 interchange at km 0.22 on the R40-6 has the highest levels of congestion, hence a grade-separated interchange will be implemented at this intersection. The Scope of work for the proposed project is as follows: • Upgrade the existing at grade crossing of Road R40 and Road R527; • Construct a new grade-separated interchange(s); and • Close off existing access for public roads on the R40 between km 93.0 on section 5 and km 0.6 on section 6 for safety reasons. • Development of two borrow pits and one quarry. Concept – Rotary Interchange is the preferred and approved alternative by SANRAL. The interchange concept will entail rerouting of local traffic from the R40-5/6, onto the R527/D5012 and new access roads to the southern and eastern quadrants. Rotary interchange proposes a new interchange at the R40/R527 intersection, and new intersections of the access roads, R527, D5012 and intersection ramps.
