Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Launch for the new version of SAHRIS occurred on Monday the 30th of October 2023.

“Reclaiming, restoring and celebrating our heritage” is the theme for this year’s heritage month. The South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) has a mandate to identify, protect & promote South African cultural heritage resources. SASSETA’s vision is to be a leader in skills development and training for safety and security.

SAS Pietermaritzburg, formerly the HMS Pelorus

By virtue of the powers vested in the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) in terms of section 27(5) of the National Heritage Resources Act, 25 of 1999, SAHRA hereby declares the SAS Pietermaritzburg shipwreck site off Millers Point near Simons Town as a National Heritage Site

The large thigh bone (femur) protruding from the ground was the fossil that drew attention to this important dinosaur exposed in a road cutting along the R393 near the Barkley Pass. All of this exposed femur (35cm) was stolen on Wednesday 15th May

An important fossil was stolen between Mountain Shadows and Moshesh's Ford in the Eastern Cape on 15th May 2013. A report on the case appeared in the Star newspaper on Friday 31st May 2013.
