Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Silicon Technologies Pty Ltd (Siltech) has submitted an application to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, (DFFE), under section 24G of the National Environmental Management Act, No. 107 of 1998 (NEMA) (as amended), for the following: 1) An Environmental Authorisation (EA) in terms of the NEMA, for the decommissioning of i) the Ash and Fines Dump, Gas Cleaning Plant Fines Dump and the Solid Waste Landfill, referred to as the ‘Consolidated Waste Area’; and, ii) the Historic Power Station Cooling Ponds (as a disposal site) by covering with a lime and ash protective capping. 2) A Waste Management Licence (WML) in terms of the National Environmental Waste Management Act, No. 59 of 2008 (NEMWA) (as amended) for the decommissioning of i) The Old Lime Settling Ponds; and, ii) The Ash Dump. Expanded_Motivation: 

The decommissioning and rehabilitation measures proposed are justified on the basis of mitigating existing and potential long term latent (and in some cases, patent) impacts associated with the facilities.The authorisation of the decommissioning and rehabilitation activites on the waste facilities will ensure that Siltech manages all potential impacts eminating from the waste facilities, thereby minimizing environmental degradation as well as resulting detrimental social impacts.
