ProposalDescription:

Alterations & Additions to existing residence on ERF 2903, at 20 Stirling Crescent, Durban North

Expanded_Motivation:

The alterations and additions to the existing building are necessary for the following reasons:- To create a home in keeping with the client’s lifestyle and needs as the current dwelling does not have suitable accommodation for the client and their family. Our brief was to create a home in keeping with our client’s lifestyle and to upgrade and refurbish their home. This involves creating a more open plan, relaxed living feel to the family and entertainment areas. In addition, the client wished to create a home which has an overall harmonious theme and style as opposed to a collection of architectural styles and features as per the current building. The alternation are as follows:- a. Ground Floor: A new Porte Cochure & new double volume entrance to address the lovely new staircase. The accommodation on the ground floor is to be extended & existing internal walls demolished to create open plan living, dining & kitchen areas, portion of the existing guest loo & dining room is to be altered to become a separate scullery. A separate Guest Bedroom & en-suite bathroom has been created and a semi-open plan bar area & wine cellar has been added; the lounge / living room and bar open out onto a newly created wide covered verandah which addresses the magnificent view and provides an external living area – an extension to the indoor living area. For security reasons & to suit client’s needs; a new double garage is proposed using the existing kitchen and extending out, allows for a connection directly onto the home with safe access from the garage directly into the scullery. Off the proposed verandah there are newly shaped stairs that connect the living are to the existing pool and yard area below. The existing servant’s quarters is to be refurbished in order to match the style of the proposed new alterations done to the existing dwelling. The existing double garage is to be extended to house the clients boats, and as it stands will be too short. The existing yard is to be kept as is, as it’s magnificent with a lovely large tree in the centre of the yard creating large area of shade during the hot seasons b. Upper Floor:- The beautiful new stair & double volume created leads up to a newly created Living Area rather than a narrow passage. A separate pyjama Lounge has been added to accommodate the family’s evening living. The existing accommodation has been dramatically altered with most of the existing internal walls being demolished, to accommodate 5 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms & study according to the client’s needs. A new Main Bedroom, Dressing Room & En-suite bathroom has been added over the new garages below. All the bedrooms open onto & are linked by a new covered verandah which addresses the magnificent views amplified by being elevated from this level. The out-buildings remain single storey & the proposed Porte Cochure has been roofed to match the height of the main roof level.
