Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

The permit submission entail granting DPWI a permit to make minor alterations at the entrance and foyer of Africa House to ensure the facilities compliance with Section S of the National Building Regulations concerning Persons with Disabilities. Disabled persons were experiencing challenges with accessing the building, therefor DPWI proposed designs that enable access and movement for disabled persons.

Expanded_Motivation:

Parliament Precinct forwarded a request to the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure to assess whether Africa House is equipped with the relevant facilities for persons with disabilities since reports were received of officials having difficulty accessing the building due to certain constraints. After an assessment was done by DPWI officials, it was discovered that Africa House entrance foyer and security booth was not easily accessible for disabled persons. The permit submission is purposed to assist DPWI in expediting the process of making Africa House compliant with Section S of the National Building Regulations concerning Persons with Disabilities. Proposals were compiled with the consciousness of the Heritage status of the Precinct and building and the intention was to retain the character and integrity of the historical building.
