ProposalDescription:

Proposed alterations and demolition of St Dominics Swimming Pool and auxiliary buildings, Erf 392, Erf 1 of 382, R/382, Rem of Erf 1, erf 15571, Newcastle

Expanded_Motivation:

The current swimming pool and auxiliary buildings are not in use due to the dilapidated state of the pool and the buildings. The original swimming pool was completed in 1915 and the Academy became the first school in Natal to have its own pool. The pool has undergone significant changes and was altered to a 25m pool as recent as 2010. There is little or no architectural or environmental value. The proposal is to re-build the existing pool in the same location and enclose the pool with a structure similar in aesthetic style as that of the School Hall completed in 2019. The proposal will affect the surrounding buildings such as the cloakrooms, ablutions and pool pump building, thus it is proposed that the buildings be demolished. The portion of the school has no exceptional architectural importance.
