ProposalDescription:

Application for condonation of unlawful work including unlawful Entrance Structure, unlawful Seating Structure, and unlawful Ticket Office on generally 'Protected' site that is older than 60 years, Glen Park Station, Underwood Road, Glen Park, Pinetown, 3610.

Expanded_Motivation:

Glen Park Station is on the District 1 Line of the "Old Natal Main line". The District 1 line was first opened in 1878, however Glen Park Station was not on the original line in 1880 (as seen in the steam rail timetable for December 1880). The station is older than 60 years, and has limited heritage significance due to its position on the historic rail line. There are no structures on the site that are over 60 years old with heritage value. A description of the illegal work of the site is outlined below: Entrance Structure -Galvanised streel frame structure using circular steel hollow sections with gates - Partially-covered by a corrugated sheeting roof with timber trusses and battens Seating Structure -Masonry seating structure with concrete slab for sitting. Back and side rest walls to timber beam height- painted but not plastered. - Masonry piers on North and South ends of structure, plastered and painted, supporting a timber beam which supports timber rafters and battens on which corrugated roof sheeting sits. Ticket Structure -New masonry ticket office with portico facing North end with 2 bays facing the North side with brick piers. -Building has a double pitched, tiled roof and is plastered and painted. Timber rafters and purlins -Small ticketing window with counter facing North edge, and openings to South, East and West sides
