Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

In order to preserve the piece of timber for educational and information purposes, it is proposed to salvage the timber and display it at the Municipal Offices in Yzerfontein. The Municipal Offices is the old salt house and one of the oldest buildings in Yzerfontein. It will therefore also be very close in proximity to the historic lime kilns on the same premise.

Expanded_Motivation:

The piece of timber with the large iron nails has been washed up on the shore without any evidence of a wreck or other indication of its origin. If it is not salvaged from the position where it has been washed up, it will be relocated by the tides and may be lost. A permit is requested to display the timber as described under the proposal description above. It is proposed that the piece of timber be carried to the sea and then towed by a small boat to the Yzerfontein harbour. This way of transporting wil allow for the smallest possible chance of damage to the artefact. At the harbour it will be transferred to a pickup truck and moved to the final position at the Municipal Offices where it will be displayed together with relevant information.
