ProposalDescription:

Proposed Graves exhumation and Relocation for Open Pit mining expansion by Blackwattle Colliery in Middelburg Town of Mpumalanga Province, South Africa.

Expanded_Motivation:

Blackwattle Colliery is planning to expand its Open Pit Mine activities at the Farm Vaalbank 289 JS. An estimated number of 60 graves were identified. A proper consultation to identify the direct descendants of the deceased was conducted and yielded positive outcome. Affected families consented to the proposed exhumation and relocations of their loved one burials, however, only 13 graves could not be claimed. In line with section 36 of NHRA, unclaimed graves after consultation process has lapse, can be classified an unknown graves. The Mpumalanga Department of Health has granted an exhumation permit (attached) for the exhumation of those consented graves, but 13 of the affected graves has not been claimed. This application is specifically for the 13 graves that we could not trace the direct descendants of the deceased.
