Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Canyon Coal Khanye Grave Relocation- Phase1

Application for the consent of the first phase relocation of 24 known graves to be adversely affected by mining operations at Khanye Mine at Wachtenbietjieskop 506 JR Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng Province of South Africa. Of the total eighty-eight (88) graves, twenty-four (24) identified graves are to be relocated from the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality to the closest municipal cemetery in Bronkhorstspruit Municipal Cemetery in the same municipality, as requested by the Next-of-Kin.The remaining 64 graves, including unclaimed graves, will be relocated in a second/or Phase 2.

Expanded_Motivation: 

G&A Heritage Management Consultants along with Reach Archaeology Consulting have been appointed to affect the relocation of identified graves, to be adversely affected by the expansion of mining operations at Canyon Coal, Khanye Colliery Mine at Wachtenbietjieskop 506 JR Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng Province of South Africa. In this first phase, a total of 24 identified and consented graves will be relocated to the nearby Bronkhorstpruit Municipal Cemetery. The stakeholder engagement process for the first phase was completed in June 2022. With the identified graves are to be relocated from the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality to the Bronkhorstpruit Cemetery in the same municipality. A local undertaker, Elmond Tombstone and Funeral Services, has been appointed to assist with the transportation of mortal remains. In Phase 2 of the Khanye relocation process, the remaining 64 un-consented graves will include the unknown/unclaimed graves will be relocated as per the identifiable/ known next-of-kin requests, following the completion of the ongoing stakeholder engagement process.
