Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

Permit application for destructive analysis of fossil bones of Plateosauravus and Telle River dinosaur, unofficially 'Euskelosaurus'. These basal Sauropodomorpha are from the Eastern Cape and Lesotho and would give insight into how large herbivorous dinosaurs would have grown and their palaeobiology. The fossils of interest are from the Iziko South African Museum in Cape Town and all research will be done at the University of Cape Town.

Expanded_Motivation:

The destructive analysis of fossil bones of Plateosauravus and the Telle River dinosaur would contribute to the knowledge of how basal sauropodomorpha grew, when they would reach sexual maturity, the pathologies they sustained and contribute to other anatomical and palaeobiological studies which could be done as well. Southern Africa and South Africa in particular is where many dinosaur fossils are found and through the sectioning and histology of these fossil bones we can give insight, through published journal papers, into how these dinosaurs, and those similar to them, lived during the Triassic.
