Case Type:

Development Type:

ProposalDescription:

salvage of remainder of sites at Hermanus kraal 1186, Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal 2016: Salvage the features recorded during the 2015 salvage that occured in the buffer zone and extend metal detector survey further downhill

Expanded_Motivation:

Sites were supposed to be mitigated before the quarry began, but have now been destroyed. There is a small portion of land that has not been effected and this has walling and possible camping area. The buffer area goes uphilll to an area identified as HER07. This should require mitigation as well in case of accidental damage. HER03 requries no further mitigation as it is downhill for the quarry and highly uinlikely to be damaged. If damage or overburdenb does occur the clean-up will be at the developers exepense. 2016: The quarry is expanding to the limits of the area noted as the buffer zone in 2015. A few stone walls and three stone cairns were noted in this survey and described in the report. These will be mitigated for destruction purposes. AN extrended metal detector survey will occur further down hill. The general area will be resurveyed due to better ground visibility.
