Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

Proposal for two new universal access ramps at South African Astronomical Observatory, Erf 26423-RE1, Observatory, Cape Town, City of Cape Town municipality, Western Cape.

Expanded_Motivation:

Due to existing steep slope conditions on site, two new universal access ramps are proposed on site between the existing auditorium and technical workshop buildings, in order to allow wheelchair access through this portion of the site. The adjacent auditorium and technical buildings are later 20th century additions which do not have heritage value, and the focus is rather on maintaining the character of the adjacent landscape. A detailed motivation is included in the attached document "SAAO UNIVERSAL ACCESS HERITAGE STATEMENT 1ST JUNE 2020"
