ProposalDescription:

PGS Heritage (Pty) Ltd, has been appointed by Stilobuzz (Pty) Ltd (Renico Construction) to conduct a GPR survey and test excavations of features (earth-and-rock mounds) that possibly could be graves. The two features are located on Erf 1884 Capital Park Ext 7, Gauteng Province.

Expanded_Motivation:

The area was identified during construction activities. These activities came remarkably close to the features before they were identified (less than 5m), and the client has been advised that going forward, a 30m buffer should be implemented until the issue has been resolved. Google Earth imagery and historic aerial photographs revealed that there use to be buildings at this location and it is therefore not certain if the features are graves or building rubble resulting from the this being demolished. On the Topographical maps, the buildings that were located close to the features could be observed from 1975 (4th Edition 2528CA). The existence of the farmstead is confirmed by aerial photographs dating back to 1958. The general area seems to have once been used for farming as it is proximity is close to the Apies River and these types of farmsteads were prevalent throughout the wider Wonderboom/Capital Park area at the time. If the features are graves it is most likely that they can be associated with this farmstead. Considering the above information, we are hereby requesting to conduct a GPR survey and test excavations in an area of approximately 20 square meters to determine the presence of graves.
