ProposalDescription:

Proposed Additions and Alterations to Chemistry Department building at UKZN, Pietermaritzburg, Chemistry Building, Scottville, KwaZulu- Natal. Drawing WD-000/WD-100/WD-101/WD-102

Expanded_Motivation:

The building forms part of the Pietermaritzburg University Campus, historically known as the Natal University College, established in 1910.The existing roof coverings are in need of replacement. The clay tiles (on Block A) are brittle and have broken in places causing leaks. The box gutters need regular maintenance which involves climbing on the tiles, which causes breakages. The procurement of replacement Marseille tiles is becoming more difficult. The asbestos roof sheeting (Block B) is to be replaced as part of a project to remove all asbestos for health reasons. Adjacent buildings of similar age have metal roof sheeting, the proposed replacement will match the colour of the adjacent buildings.
