Development Type:

ProposalDescription:

EThekwini Municipality, Engineering Unit: Roads Provision Department (eThekwini) are proposing the upgrade of a culvert and gravel Road A637 in Folweni, KwaZulu-Natal.The upgrading of the existing culvert is subject to an EDTEA.The A637 is an existing gravel road, which serves as a taxi route between the A640 and Sbu Magwanyane Highway (MR35).

Expanded_Motivation:

The proposed upgrading of the culvert at a stream crossing triggers a basic assessment however the road upgrade does not require authorisation. The proposed culvert will not exceed an extent of 5 000m2 therefore does not trigger the requirement of a HIA. The gravel road that is proposed to be upgraded is more than 300m in length. The road is an existing gravel road and the area has been highly transformed, it is highly unlikely that the upgrade of the road will require a HIA.
