Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

PGS Heritage (Pty) Ltd was appointed by Blaauwbosch (Kophia) Mine to effect the mitigation of graves located in a single informal burial ground located on the farm Catherine’s Fancy 831 close to Boshof, Free State.

Expanded_Motivation:

Approximately 6 graves were accidentally disturbed in this informal burial ground by mining activities. No surface features were visible for the presence of graves and therefore this area could contain more graves. The area will not be affected by future mining activities as the decision was made to avoid any more damage to the graves. After stakeholder meetings on site that took place on 3 May 2019 it was decided and confirmed by all parties that the exposed remains be reburied and the area rehabilitated. An amendment to the original permit is requested. The burial ground is located in the northern corner of the farm Catherine’s Fancy 831, near the town Boshof in the Free State Province.
