Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

ProposalDescription: 

SANParks have awarded a concession to South African Experiences Trading (Pty)Ltd, operating as BidCo, to establish and operate two seasonal mobile tented camps in the Kruger National Park. Each camp will include 30 guest tents and 20 staff tents with support infrastructure, all designed to be completely mobile and operated for the five months of the dry season from May to September each year for a nine year concession. One camp is to be established just to the north of the Tshokwane Picnic Site and another to the north east of the Satara Rest Camp and these fall within the Mpumalanga Province.

Expanded_Motivation: 

A number of field visits to the proposed camp sites have been carried out over the last two years and in the company of the Regional and Section Rangers. While it is recognised that archaeological artifacts may be found all over the KNP, arrow heads and rock chips were encountered at only one of the four sites that have been assessed. It is proposed that the potential heritage value of all the sites be recognised, that camp staff be trained in heritage awareness and that the 'Chance Find' protocol be implemented. It is not foreseen that a heritage impact assessment will be required due to the very small spatial and temporal scale of the camps.
