ProposalDescription:

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd intends to establish a substation in the Port Durnford area (Map 1 in Appendix A), between Mtunzini and Richards Bay in uMhathuze Municipality. There is an existing 88/11kV, 5MVA Port Durnford substation. It supplies, mainly residential load at Mtunzini, Port Durnford and Dlangezwa areas. The substation was built as a temporary measure to support the loads from Mtunzini and Ngoye substations due to long 11kV networks which were affected by end of line voltages. It is therefore recommended that the substation be relocated because of space constraints and upgraded to bring it to the latest and acceptable standard as per Eskom requirements of a normal substation.Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd proposes to: • Establish a 20MVA transformer with associated equipment. Eguip 4 11kV feeders (Only equip three); • Construct approximately 0.5km of Turn In Line (TIL) to Port Durnford 88kV Substation.
