ProposalDescription:

The aim of this application is to decrease the current active mining area and to add an additional small section for mining next to the current mining area.

Expanded_Motivation:

The Mining Right area falls within the jurisdiction of the Brits Magisterial District, in the North-West Province. The Mining Right has the following reference number: File Ref No: NW 30/5/1//2/3/2/1/441MR. Sallies Silica (Pty) Ltd purchased the mining right previously held by Rolfes Silica (Pty) Ltd in December 2019, as part of the purchase agreement, the property, the existing opencast granite quarry, crushing and screening plant as well as the bagging plant was included in the sale. Sallies is currently mining and are crushing, screening and bagging material. The aim of this application is to decrease the current active mining area and to add an additional small section for mining next to the current mining area. Decrease of Current Mining Area The decrease of the current mining area would entail the final mining of the current mining area in order to shape the area for rehabilitation. The current area will be mined to a level of the existing PCD. The current mining area will then be flooded in order to create an artificial dam. The side walls of the current area will be shaped and covered by stored topsoil from mining activities. Rehabilitated side walls of the current mining area will then be revegetated. New Expansion Area The expansion of the mining footprint would entail the addition of a strip of property on the western boundary of the site. The area will be stripped of vegetation and mined to the depth of the current mining area. The additional mining area will ensure that the mine has reserves for the following xxx years. This will ensure the sustainable operation of the mine.
