Case Type:

ProposalDescription:

In celebration of World Tourism Day, Soulistic and South African Tourism will be profiling the Sterkfontein Caves and giving a musical performance at the auditorium found on the other side of the caves. The performance will be a 1.5 hour DJ set by Black Coffee along with a percussionist. Shooting inside the cave will consist of handheld cameras that will only be shooting Black Coffee "exploring" the caves with a maximum of 5 people inside the cave for that. The main show will be held in the auditorium where by all the heavy equipment will be set up. Equipment List and Crew List is in additional documents.

Expanded_Motivation:

We are proposing that we be given permission to use the outside deck part of the caves just next to the entrance by the burst as the site for the actual 90minutes musical production by our very own Black Coffee on the 27th September from 14h00 till 15h30. This production will be LIVE on Channel O on DSTV and the feed will go to the main event at the Stone Park in Maropeng via satellite link for the main picnic event. How will it be executed? We will first send a small team (5-10 pax)with him underground to document his real experience underground in line with the production theme of ignition, origin and sharing South Africa with the world. Having been inspired by our amazing ancestry story underground, the musical maestro will emerge from the caves fired up to communicate with the world the SA and Africa’s story through the 90min heritage musical experience. The entire pre-production work inside the caves will then be incorporate visually into his live broadcast production on the 27th with the background of the caves entrance and the video shots taken from his journey embedded into the production. If this is acceptable to everyone, we will then advise the production company of Black Coffee to re-submit the application with this new approach. The agreement between the artists and SAT has been signed and he has cut short his European tour specially to launch this programme in support of the promotion of SA world heritage sites. There set-up will start on the 25th September and on the 26th September there will be a dry run with the full production crew. We are also expecting the Minister, Deputy Minister, MEC and VC of Wits to form part of the planned meet and greet with Black Coffee on Saturday the 26th and they will also get a chance to see some parts of the dry-run at the Caves. Hope this assist as we cannot afford to lose and opportunity to generate global content that will support our sector recovery in the medium to long term trajectory.
