Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Launch for the new version of SAHRIS occurred on Monday the 30th of October 2023.

Castle Office - Requires upgrade solution

The current server is approximately 5 years old.
The backup tape does not function effectively and is out of date.
Disk space is running low.

A temporary solution has been set up (Monday, 15 October 2012).  Additional disk volumne created from spare harddrive in spare server.

Option 1 :  Purchase new server R30 000 plus backup tape solution R30 000 = R60 000 excluding installation and setup.

Option 2 :  Purchase new tape library with bigger capacity for HO R60 000 and give current HO Tape Library to WCape.

Beta release of software to setup private cloud for WCape to be released in Feb 2013 and first release due in April 2013.  This would help to put all WCape data and SAT office data in cloud and put them on webbased email, thus taking the maintenance and costs of a dedicated server and backup system away from these smaller staffed offices.


Comments

WCape / Grahamstown and SAT - need to be reviewed. They either need new servers / upgraded software etc. or they need to operate without servers and use a cloud based solution. The IT Manager to investigate and propose the way forward.

IT Manager informed IT staff that he was not to be assigned tasks in the IT Helpdesk.
Matter will be closed, as this forms part of the IT Strat plan being reviewed by IT Manager.
