AMAFA: Call for Proposals - Design & Production of a Curriculum & Associated Material for Rock Art Monitor Training
![Amafa Amafa](https://sahris.sahra.org.za/sites/default/files/website/articlepics/amafa.png)
INTRODUCTION:
Amafa AkwaZulu Natali is the provincial heritage agency appointed in terms of the KZN Heritage Act. It is responsible for, inter alia, the conservation of heritage resources in the Province, including rock art. Ideally the management of rock art sites should be based on the co-operative participation of interested and affected parties (land owners with rock art on their properties, EKZNW, private game reserves, communities, NGOs, museums, universities, etc.)
It is essential in the effective management of rock art to introduce a standard monitoring regime. At present a hodge podge of training regimes and training providers operates in a seemingly uncoordinated effort. A singular, uniform training regime has to be produced. This would include a written curriculum, electronic presentsations, student literature, other study aids, set examination criteria and continiual evaluation. Amafa now requires a service provider to design and consolidate such a structured Rock Art Monitoring curriculum to be used by selected trainers.
The follow is to be included:
- A written curriculum (both an electronic and hard copy)
- Power Point Presentations used during training (both electronic and hard copy)
- Student hand books and literature (both electronic and hard copy)
- Other study aids, as deemed appropriate by the developer
- Set examination and evaluation procedures
- Training of Amafa staff.
The curriculum should cover, among other things:
Using a GPS
- Basic map-reading skills
- Site finding skills
- Monitoring procedures
- Condition assessment forms
- Report back structures
- Planning cultural monitoring patrols
- Using SAHRIS
viii Report back schedule and procedures
Pricing. Interested services providers will provide costing for the project which will include details in respect of:
- Professional fees;
- Transport;
- Subsistence;
- Subcontracts;
- An indication of timeframe, delivery milestones and payment schedule;
- Other.
The service provider will disclose any other funding received and/or used for this project, along with the particulars of all parties participating.
Time frame. This project is listed in the Annual Performance Plan for the Professional and Research Section of Amafa for the 2013/2014 financial year, and as such, the following deadlines should be adhered to:
30 September 2013- Completion of the curriculum and training pack
31 December 2013- Training of Amafa staff
Intellectual Property. The curriculum and training packs will remain the property of Amafa. The contractor will be recognized by Amafa whenever this data is made public.
Amafa Staff Input Amafa strives to contribute to the skills upliftment and professional development of all its staff members. Inclusion of Amafa staff in the project is seen as an ideal vehicle to achieve this. A staff member might therefor join the Project Team in the field to work as a member of the team. Logistical expenses for the member of staff will be covered by Amafa.
