ProposalDescription:

Removal and Replacement of the Existing Asbestos Roof on erf 1738/2, c/o Quayside Road and Margret Mncadi Ave, City of Durban, eThekwini Municipality, Kwazulu Natal

Expanded_Motivation:

The 3rd floor asbestos roof at the top of the Customs and Excise building is in a dilapidated state and will need to be replaced. Furthermore asbestos is a health and environmental hazard. Due to the state of the asbestos roof, the office space under the roof is currently unusable. The use of the building for customs and clearing services for the South African Revenue Services is of national importance. It is therefore imperative to replace the asbestos roof for the above mentioned reasons. The proposal is to remove the asbestos roof on the 3rd floor of the customs house and replace it with corrosion resistant kraft lock roof sheeting on steel trusses to structural engineers detail. The removal of the asbestos is to be done in accordance with the occupational health and safety act 1993 and asbestos regulations, 2001. The existing building is over 60 years old.
