Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

The alterations proposed for the barn and homestead located on Nieuwedorp, Founders' Estates, Boschendal Farmlands, Dwars River Valley, Stellenbosch, as submitted in the abovementioned application, are hereby approved subject to the following conditions: 

1. Work must proceed in accordance with the drawings SK.01 dated December 2013, the scope of work outlined in Section A.2 and the recommendations outlined in Section D of the report. 

2. A heritage architect must be employed to provide advice on mortar mixes on the homestead and barn, and paint finishes on the barn. 

3. A structural engineer must be employed with the input of a heritage architect to provide specifications for the stabilisation of the southern gable end. 

4. All excavations for services/landscaping must be monitored by a specialist archaeologist and archaeological resources must be recorded and rescued where possible.

5. Where landscaping is proposed to be undertaken, a more detailed study will be required and any landscaping interventions in the future will be required to come before the Master Review Committee (MRC) prior to submission to SAHRA.
