Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation

This permit is for the rescue of human remains identified in the southern area of the development of pipe lines for the formalisation of an informal settlement. 

Conditions:

  1. If Dr Morris is not to be present on the site at all times then the heritage authority must be provided with the names and qualifications of the authorised representatives.
  2. Adequate recording methods as specified in the Regulations and Guidelines pertaining to the National Heritage Resources Act must be employed.  Note that the position of all excavations, human remains and cultural material collected must be marked on a plan of site.
  3. A standard site record form must be lodged with the McGregor Museum.
  4. Human remains must at all times be handled with respect and graves should not be disturbed except where unavoidable.
  5. An interim report on the specimens recovered and their origin must be submitted to SAHRA by the end of April 2015. A final report is due by the end of April 2016.
  6. All remains recovered, including  artefacts, as well as field notes and records, must be kept with the skeletal material and be curated at the McGregor Museum. The long-term plan for the storage of the skeletal material will be finalised once public participation has been concluded.  
  7. SAHRA must be informed of the outcome of public participation. The long term plan for the human remains must be decided in collaboration with SAHRA. 
  8. Reprints of all published papers or copies of theses and/or reports resulting from this work must be lodged with SAHRA.
  9. If a published report has not appeared within three years of the lapsing of this permit, the report required in terms of the permit will be made available to researchers on request.
  10. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to obtain permission from the landowner for each visit, and conditions of access imposed by the landowner must be observed.
  11. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to fill in the excavations to the satisfaction of SAHRA and the landowner.
  12. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.
  13. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
