SiteComments:

BKS1310/2627BA/BE016 is the headgear located at Rand Uranium’s No. 8 Shaft. The Randfontein Estates Gold Mine was in operation from 1889 and the archival documents indicate that headgear was used. A survey of the historical aerial hotographs indicates that this particular headgear dates to the mid- to late 1930s. Immediate threats can include threats such as corrosion or vandalism, or development such as drilling and site clearing. Potential sources of threats and risk include the proposed development of abstraction site. Construction and operational activities at the abstraction site at Rand Uranium’s No. 8 Shaft will cause the headgear to be demolished.
