Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Ditsong Iron Age Ivory

For sampling of the following ivory fragments from Ditsong Museums of South Africa:

Dr Ashley N. Coutu applied for a permit for destructive analysis of ivory samples from broken/scrap pieces from the Ditsong collection for isotope analysis. Samples will consist of approximately 100 mg taken from broken off flakes and chips. Sampling and analysis will take place in the Department of Archaeology at the University of Cape Town.

This permit is issued to Dr. Ashley N. Coutu, University of Cape Town to sample the selected representatives of ivory material as agreed by the curator F.E. Teichert, Ditsong Museums of South Africa. Selected specimens consist of ivory bangle waste fragments and pieces of unworked tusk from Schroda, Limpopo Province; worked ivory fragments and hippo ivory working waste from Askoppies, North West Province; and ivory bangle fragments from Thulamela, Limpopo Province.

Conditions:

- Sampling must be done with minimal damage to arrows and according to the conditions set by the curating institutions.

- A permit report on the activities of this permit is due on 31 August 2016.

- Reprints of all the published papers or copies of these and/or reports resulting from this work must be lodged with the heritage authority.

- SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries by or to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

- SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
