Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Transport of Archaeological Material

Conditions: 

For temporary export of 12 boxes with stone artifacts from Elandsfontein.

This permit refers to stone artifacts from the Stone Age Site Hopefield/Elandsfontein. The specimens are currently hosted by the Archaeology Department at University of Cape Town.

The permit is issued to Dr Simon Hall, HOD Archaeology Department at University of Cape Town, in collaboration with Dr David Braun, Archaeology Department at University of Cape Town, and George Washington University, to export 12 boxes of Stone Age objects via TNT Couriers for detailed 3D scanning by Dr David Braun at the Stone Age Archaeology Research Lab in the Center for the Advanced Study of Human Paleobiology at George Washington University from August 2015 to August 2016.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representatives of the material stored in the collection may be exported. The bulk of the material remains in the collections of the Archaeology Department at UCT.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site (if known), and the name and address of the permit holder or the respective Museum, in which it is accessioned.

3. The material must be hand carried by Dr David Braun.

4. Dr David Braun is responsible for the transport to and from the above mentioned facility.

5. Dr David Braun is responsible for the cost of the return of the material.

6. The specimens must be kept for identification and study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

7. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

8. No destructive analysis or sampling may be undertaken.

9. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before the 30 September 2016. This shall include a complete list of the identified and described artifacts.

10. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

11. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

12. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

13. The material must be returned by the date the permit expires.
