Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation

Conditions: 

1. This permit allows the destruction, that is, rehabilitation and reworking of the St Augustine Mine Tailings on Erf 8622in Kimberley, Northern Cape Province, as the significance of the heritage resources reported in an Archaeological Impact Assessment from June 2014 by Nelius Kruger is considered to be low.

2. The destruction of the site must be monitored by an the Environmental Control Officer (ECO), who must be trained in the resources that can be expected. An archaeologist should investigate the site once per month during all earth moving activities: Soil from the tailings will be transported to an off-site location using one front loader and three trucks; Water spray technology will be used for dust control; A transport route away from the Historical Kimberley Mine is to be implemented to limit noise disturbance on site. The name and qualification of the archaeologist monitoring the site shall be submitted to SAHRA for approval.

3. The adjacent Historical Kimberley Mine must be avoided.

4. A report from the destruction activities must be submitted to SAHRA by the ECO or the archaeologist monitoring the activities by 30 September 2016.

5. Any deviations from the plan must be submitted and approved by SAHRA.

6. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

7. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
