Destruction Permit

Conditions:

1. This permit is issued to Mr. Shaun Naidoo (Technical/Security/Surveillance) from Johannesburg Zoo.

2. This permit allows the destruction of the archaeological site that was discovered during excavation works of a car park at the Johannesburg Zoo, Gauteng Province. The site has been satisfactorily mitigated (see interim mitigation report dated 16 October 2015). The heritage resources recovered from the site suggests a strong correlation with domestic waste and activities and the majority of these could be dated as younger than 100 years. The significance of the site is considered to be low in terms of its value for providing additional scientific information.

2. The destruction of the site must be monitored by an archaeologist along with all earth moving activities.

3. A report from the destruction activities must be submitted to SAHRA by the archaeologist monitoring the activities by 31 October 2016.

4. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

5. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
