Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Export of charcoal from VR048

Conditions: 

For export of 1 charcoal fragment excavated from Square AS41 at Varsche River Site VR048 near Vredendal, Matzikama Municpality, Western Cape Province for radiocarbon dating. The fragment will be destroyed in the sampling process.

 

The permit is issued to Dr Jayson Orton, Archaeological Services and Heritage Assessment, to export a charcoal fragment excavated at Varsche Rivier via courier for destructive sampling (radiocarbon dating) at DIRECTAMS, 11822 North Creek Parkway North, Suite 107, Bothell, WA 98011 by Dr Ugo Zoppi. The host institution of the specimen is Iziko South African Museum in Cape Town, of which a letter of consent was received.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representative of the material stored in the collection may be exported.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site (if known), and the name and address of the permit holder or the respective Museum, in which it is accessioned.

3. The material must be hand carried or air couriered.

4. Dr Jayson Orton is responsible for the transport to and from the above mentioned facility.

5. The specimen must be used for analysis purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

6. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

7. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before the 31 October 2016.

8. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

9. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

10. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
