Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Neutron-scanning of a tapinocephalid from Piggotts Bridge (South Africa)

For temporary export of the following fossil tapinocephalid skull from Piggotts Bridge (Karoo): AM 6556.

The specimen is currently housed in the Evolutionary Studies Institute (ESI) at University of the Witwatersrand, on loan from the Albany Museum, Grahamstown. It will be CT-scanned at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, France, and the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland by Paul Tafforeau (ESRF) and Vincent Fernandez (ESRF). The specimen will be hand-carried.

The permit is issued to Dr Julien Benoit (Postdoctoral Research Fellow, ESI, University of the Witwatersrand, in collaboration with Paul Tafforeau (beamline scientist, ESRF) and Vincent Fernandez (beamline scientist, ESRF), to export 1 tapinocephalid skull from Piggotts Bridge.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representative of the material stored in the collection may be exported. The remaining material remains in the collections of the Albany Museum, Grahamstown.

2. The specimen must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site (if known), and the name and address of the permit holder or the respective Museum, in which it is accessioned.

3. The specimen must be hand carried.

4. Dr Julien Benoit is responsible for the transport to and from the above mentioned facility.

5. Dr Julien Benoit is responsible for the cost of the return of the material.

6. The specimen must be kept for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

7. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

8 A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before the 31 December 2017.

9. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

10. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

11. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

12. The material must be returned by the date the permit expires.
