Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Export of 8 Sibudu stone tools

For temporary export of eight (8) stone tool specimens (Sibudu Howiesons poort tools) from the Sibudu Shelter, Inanda, KwaZulu Natal Province:

 SHPQ002, SHPQ008, SHPQ007, SBOb002, SBD Raman 005, 6, SB5c031, SB5e030

The permit is issued to Dr Lyn Wadley, Evolutionary Studies Institute (ESI) at University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), in collaboration with Dr L. Prinsloo, University of Wollongong, temporarily export stone tool specimens for Raman spectroscopy in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Wollongong, New South Wales from March 2016 to 30 September 2016. The specimens are currently hosted by the ESI at Wits.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representatives of the material stored in the collection may be exported. The bulk of the material remains in the collections of the ESI at Wits.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site (if known), and the name and address of the permit holder or the respective museum, in which it is accessioned.

3. The material must be hand-carried by Dr L. Prinsloo.

4. Drs Lyn Wadley and L. Prinsloo are responsible for the transport to and from the above mentioned facility.

5. Drs Lyn Wadley and L. Prinsloo are responsible for the cost of the return of the material.

6. The specimens must be kept for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

7. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

8. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before the 30 September 2017.

10. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

11. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

12. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

13. The material must be returned by the date the permit expires.
