Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Magnetic susceptibility of sediment samples

For temporary export of 500 sediment samples from Pinnacle Point Sites PP5-6, Western Cape Province.

The permit is issued to Dr Curtis Marean (Institute of Human Origins, Arizona State University), in collaboration with Dr Andy Herries (School of Historical and European Studies, La Trobe University, Australia), to temporarily export 500 sediment samples from Pinnacle Point Sites PP5-6, Western Cape Province for testing of their magnetic susceptibility at theSchool of Historical and European Studies, La Trobe University, Australia. The material is currently stored at MAPCRM PTY in Hartenbos and Dias Museum in Mossel Bay and will be housed in the Iziko Museum: Social Histories Collections Department after its return.

Conditions:

1. Only the selected representatives of the material stored in the collection may be exported.

2. The material must be carefully packed and all packaging must be clearly marked with the name of the site, and the name and address of the permit holder or the Iziko Museum of South Africa.

3. The material will be hand-carried by Dr Andy Herries.

4. Dr Andy Herries is responsible for the analysis of the material and its transport to and from the above mentioned institutions/collections.

5. Dr Andy Herries is responsible for the cost of the return of the specimens.

6. The samples must be used for study purposes only, and may not be sold or exchanged.

7. The material may not be loaned to any person or institution other than the above stated participants in the study, without the consent of SAHRA.

8. A report on the activities undertaken in terms of this permit must be lodged with SAHRA before 31 October 2018.

9. Copies of any papers that may result from the export of the material must be lodged with SAHRA.

10. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

11. SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

12. The material must be returned by the date the permit expires.
