Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Sampling of fossilised proboscidean teeth from Langebaanweg for stable isotope analysis

For sampling of the following 19 fossil molars of proboscidean specimens from Langebaanweg E Quarry within the West Coast Fossil Park National Heritage Site: SAM-PQL 12023, 40009, 40011, 40116, 40017A, 40983, 42561, 55000A, 20192, 30100, 69078, 33717, 42673, 45610, 45620, 45621, 45766A, 50436, 50515

This permit is issued to Dr. Deano Stynder (Department of Archaeology, University of Cape Town), in collaboration with Dr. Judith Sealy (Department of Archaeology, University of Cape Town) and Patricia Groenewald (Master’s student in Department of Archaeology, University of Cape Town), for invasive sampling of tooth enamel surfaces from 19 proboscideans Anancus capensis (8 samples), Mammuthus subplanifrons (3 samples) and Loxodonta cookei (8 samples) for isotope analysis. Specimens were selected due to their already fragmented nature. The material is currently housed in the Iziko Museums of South Africa.

Conditions:

- Sampling may not reduce the structural integrity, overall completeness or the potential for future morphometric and descriptive research.

- No paratype material may be sampled.

- Analysis will take place in the Department of Archaeology at the University of Cape Town.

- A permit report on the activities of this permit is due on 31 July 2017.

- Reprints of all the published papers or copies of these and/or reports resulting from this work must be lodged with the heritage authority.

- SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries by or to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

- SAHRA reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.
