Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Rehabilitation of heritage site 2

This permit is issued to Mr Frans Roodt in association with Dr John Sparrow to oversee the implementation of conservation measures related to Site 2, Vele Colliery. The work will entail the construction of a wall 6 metre wide by 90 centimetre high wall to allow for the ponding of the spring, the construction of a toe berm and the rehabilitation of a silt fence.  

Conditions: 

  1. If Mr Roodt is not to be present on the site at all times then SAHRA must be provided with the names and qualifications of his authorised representatives.
  2. Continuous monitoring of the site will have to take place on a monthly basis, in particular during the rainy season via photographic monitoring. The protocol must be developed in consultation with the archaeologist. The results of the monitoring must be submitted to SAHRA on a quarterly basis. 
  3. A final report is due on 30 November 2017.
  4. Reprints of all published papers or copies of theses and/or reports resulting from this work must be lodged with SAHRA.
  5. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to obtain permission from the landowner for each visit, and conditions of access imposed by the landowner must be observed.
  6. SAHRA shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.
