Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

  • A new & modernised look and layout
  • Improved site usage flows with respect to applications and content creation
  • Improved site performance and stability

Revised permit for the rehabilitation of the existing jetty in Beach Street, Port Nolloth

The MUCH Unit at SAHRA is pleased to approve the abovementioned permit application. The following terms and conditions apply:

 

1. If the permit holder is not present on the site at all times, the heritage authority must be provided with the names and contact details of his authorised representative(s).

 

2. This permit gives the holder the sole right to work on the site of the Port Nolloth jetty for the duration of the permit period.

 

3. Work must be limited to rehabilitation of the existing jetty using the methods outlined in the permit application. All activities undertaken must be for the sole purpose of infrastructure upgrades to the jetty only.

 

4. All efforts must be made to avoid destruction/disturbance of cultural heritage material, with particular attention to preserving the in situ historical railway line.

 

5. Remains of the old wooden jetty should be left in situ.

 

6. The applicant must be in communication with a suitably qualified archaeologist, who will be responsible for assessing potential impacts to cultural heritage material, should it be found.

 

7. Should cultural heritage material be discovered during any of the activities undertaken under the authority of this permit, the archaeologist must be notified immediately and work must cease and may not commence until feedback has been received from the archaeologist.

 

8. Unless the archaeologist has determined that there is a likelihood of medium or higher negative impacts on cultural heritage material, they need not be present on site at all times.

 

9. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to obtain permission from the landowner for each visit, and conditions of access imposed by the landowner must be observed.

 

10. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to fill in excavations, and to protect the site during and after excavation to the satisfaction of the heritage authority and the landowner.

 

11. The heritage authority shall not be liable for any losses, damages or injuries to persons or properties as a result of any activities in connection with this permit.

 

12. The heritage authority reserves the right to cancel this permit by notice to the permit holder.

 

13. The closing report for the rehabilitation works on the jetty must be made available to SAHRA upon the expiry of this permit.

 

14. The archaeologist’s recommendations regarding minimising negative impacts to the remaining jetty timbers, dated 21 April 2017, must be adhered to and incorporated into the management plan for the site.

 

15. The previous permit (ID 2493) on case 10810 is hereby revoked and superseded by this permit.
